On the evening of June 7th, at the invitation of the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Ms. Cora Storbeck, President of the Hallmark Corporate Foundation and Director of Community Involvement, served as the Guest of Honor for the Evening Parade at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C.
The U.S. Marine Corps honored Ms. Storbeck for her leadership and contributions in supporting Toys for Tots, a Marine Corps Program. Under Ms. Storbeck's leadership, Hallmark has raised significant financial support of Toys for Tots as well as aired the Hollywood Christmas Parade featuring Toys for Tots each year on the Hallmark Channel greatly expanding the public reach of Toys for Tots and assisting our Marines in serving 7 million children annually.
The Parade was preceded by a reception hosted by the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation’s Directors. In attendance at the reception were the Foundation’s Board of Directors and a number of friends and supporters of the Toys for Tots Program and the Marine Corps. Lieutenant General Dana, Director of the Marine Corps Staff, served as the General Officer host for the evening. He welcomed all to the reception and parade, offered remarks about Toys for Tots and introduced the President & CEO of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Lieutenant General Pete Osman, USMC (Ret).
General Osman spoke to the numerous accomplishments the Marines and volunteers of Toys for Tots were able to achieve with help from our National Corporate Sponsors like Hallmark. Ms. Storbeck then spoke about the great impact that the Marine Toys for Tots Program has made on America's less fortunate children and proud of Hallmark's partnership over the years.
The Parade, located at the oldest post in the Corps, included performances by “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps as well as the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. The evening was an inspiration for all in attendance and provided an excellent opportunity for the Marine Corps to honor Ms. Cora Storbeck and highlight Hallmark, one of Toys for Tots' major sponsors to the over 4,000 people attending the Evening Parade.
Toys for Tots, a 72-year national charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, provides happiness and hope to disadvantaged children during each Christmas holiday season. The toys, books and other gifts collected and distributed by the Marines offer these children recognition, confidence and a positive memory for a lifetime. It is such experiences that help children become responsible citizens and caring members of their community. Last year the Marine Toys for Tots Program fulfilled the holiday hopes and dreams of 7 million less fortunate children in over 800 communities nationwide. Since 1947 over 258 million children have been assisted. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a not-for-profit organization authorized by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Department of Defense to provide fundraising and other necessary support for the annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.
